Report from Colours of Sepsis 2018

Every January, in the third largest city of Czech Republic – Ostrava, there is a very special thing happening.

Colours of Sepsis, conference dedicated to intensive care, is one of the biggest of its kind and this year it was celebrating 20th anniversary. If it were a person, it would be fully functioning adult by now. And indeed it is growing like one, the numbers this year were impressive – 4 days, 6 conference rooms, 1629 attendants, 263 speakers and 330 lectures. AKUTNĚ.CZ couldn't miss this.

We sent our best members to listen, learn and write about it. We also arranged online streaming from the main conference room so even if you couldn't attend physically, you could be there with us. Panel discussions, meetings with experts, postgraduate lectures, posters section, workshops – just name it, we were there. We even organized one the workshops – How NOT to have a difficult (airway) day. On Friday morning, people eager to learn gathered in one of the conference rooms where first they listened to the theory and then got to the action, getting their hands on models to perform fiberoptic intubation, insert laryngeal masks and intraosseous lines or practice bougie-assisted cricothyreotomy (BACT). In the spirit of “work hard, play hard”, every evening there would be a social gathering or simply put a party, full of funky music, delicious food and great wine where visitors could let loose and recharge their cognitive batteries before the next day. All good must come to an end, Colours of Sepsis being no exception to this rule. So, on Friday afternoon, we said goodbye to Clarion Congress Hotel and to Ostrava, wrote last reports, made last photos, packed everything and started to get excited for the next year.
